Record visitors for Victoria's museums
Museum Victoria venues attract more visitors than any other museum organisation in Australia, according to just released figures.
About 2.3 million people visited the Melbourne and Immigration Museums, Scienceworks and IMAX from 1st July 2010 to 30th June 2011, Museum Victoria confirmed in a statement.
Melbourne Museum, which recently hosted two blockbuster exhibits - Titanic: The Artefact Exhibition and Tutankhamun And The Golden Age Of The Pharaohs, recorded its best-ever attendance with 1.4 million visits, a 33% increase on the previous year. Museum Victoria acting Chief Executive Gillian
Hoysted explained "these fantastic attendance figures reflect the popularity of our international exhibitions, local favourites such as Top Designs, and of the exhibitions developed in-house by Museum Victoria."
The Immigration Museum had 128,350 visitors in 2010/11, while Scienceworks and IMAX had almost 448,000 and 325,000 respectively.
