Western Australian tourism businesses have taken home a record number of medals at the 2017 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, attended by more than 750 tourism industry representatives from across the country at Perth’s new Optus Stadium on Friday evening.
The record haul included eight gold medals, four silver medals and two bronze medals, making it the State’s most successful National Awards appearance in the program’s 30-plus year history.
The Gold Medals were awarded to:
• Australia’s North West - Destination Marketing
• The Beach House at Bayside - Hosted Accommodation
• Fremantle Prison - Cultural Tourism

Tourism Council WA Chief Executive Evan Hall said the entire Western Australian tourism industry should reflect proudly on the night’s outcome as an indication of how much the State’s tourism industry has evolved in recent years.
Hall explains “tonight’s result emphasises the great range of amazing tourism experiences on offer for visitors to Western Australia.
“To host the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in Perth at the incredible new Optus Stadium has also allowed us to showcase our destination, experiences and product to the nation.”
The Gold Medals for North West business Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures (Adventure Tourism) and Albany’s The Beach House at Bayside (Hosted Accommodation) are the second consecutive National wins for each business. Sandalford Wines’ win in Tourism Wineries, Distilleries & Breweries marks the first Gold Medal for WA in that category for 15 years.
