RE4ORM advises of successful recycling of synthetic turf waste from Sydney’s Cromer Park

By Nigel Benton

RE4ORM, the industry-focused solution to artificial sports field waste, has advised of the successful recovery and recycling of a synthetic turf surface at Cromer Park, home of the Manly Warringah Football Association.

The project was undertaken by Polytan Asia Pacific (a subsidiary of RE4ORM co-founder the Sport Group) on behalf of their client Northern Beaches Council at the end of life of the football field.

The synthetic turf has now been successfully processed at RE4ORM’s Victorian facility for re-use, with a RE4ORM spokesperson advising in a social media post “we are pleased to have circulated these materials back into the synthetic turf industry for new projects.

“(This is) a true example of the circular economy in action.”

Over recent weeks, RE4ORM has also commenced offering the landscaping industry recovered sand sourced from used synthetic turf fields and processed at its facility, located near Wodonga.

A first for Australia, the sand is recirculated into the landscape industry, supporting the circular economy and keeping valuable resources out of landfill.

Suzanne Toumbourou, Chief Executive at the Australian Council of Recycling, recently praised the facility after a recent visit, later commenting on social media that the “world-leading plant specifically designed to recover material like sand, rubber crumb, and polyethylene from turf, and a production capacity of over 7,000 tonnes annually, … is tackling a niche yet impactful industry with innovative technology.”

First announced in 2022 and operational since the autumn, RE4ORM is a result of major synthetic turf providers Tuff Group and Sport Group coming together to provide an industry-focused solution to synthetic turf waste in Australia.
