Queens Park outdoor gym rejuvenated for growing active and sporting community

Centennial Parklands has completed a full upgrade to the popular Queens Park Fitness Station, which involved replacing the much-loved but increasingly dilapidated equipment with modern, higher quality equipment that is suitable for a range of ages.

Originally installed in the early 1990s, the Queens Park Fitness Station has been well-loved by the community and has been increasingly tiring from the heavy workload.

Through a generous funding provision by the NSW Department Sport and Recreation and the Centennial Parklands Foundation, the Parklands has been able to now install a more contemporary mix of training equipment aimed at improving flexibility, endurance and strength.

As Centennial Parklands Manager Sport and Recreation Ed Sanderson explains "we recognise the importance of a physically active lifestyle, and that public parks need to constantly evolve its equipment and facilities to ensure it meets community needs.

"More than 20 million visits are made to Centennial Parklands every year, with a large proportion of these being people wanting to exercise or relax. We are continuously exploring fresh and innovative ideas to improve visitor experience in our parks and provide improved amenities that contribute to an active community.

"This is the first of a number of fitness station upgrades and installations planned across Centennial Parklands in line with the Centennial Park Masterplan 2040 we released late last year, which we believe will be a great free resource for the community to enjoy for years to come."
