Wellington’s Conference and Exhibition Centre Tākina secures immersive Marvel exhibition

‘Marvel: Earth's Mightiest Exhibition’ offers a new immersive exhibition that will debut at Tākina Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre in December 2023 and is anticipated to attract more than 175,000 visitors during its four month run.

A co-production of Semmel Exhibitions and Marvel Themed Entertainment the exhibition aims to bring audiences an unparalleled perspective on the stories behind the super heroes, creating a whole new way to experience Marvel’s enduring legacy.

Warrick Dent, General Manager for Events and Experiences at WellingtonNZ enthused “we are very excited to welcome comic fans and film buffs to the capital. Our small but mighty city is home to a thriving film industry that’s behind some of the biggest-ever movie blockbusters; the countdown is on until the world’s newest Marvel exhibition opens its doors”.

An epic journey through Marvel history, the exhibition takes visitors from the streets of New York City to the farthest reaches of space. Exclusive to New Zealand’s film capital, it features rare artifacts, original comic art, film props, costumes, immersive designs and exclusive memorabilia, getting fans up close with iconic Marvel heroes, films and comics.

Semmel Exhibitions notes “for audiences around the world, the name Marvel conjures up images of one thing: super heroes. Whether through the vibrant colours of comic books, or the all-consuming brilliance of the big screen, Marvel characters have captured imaginations for over 80 years, catapulting readers into a vibrant universe of characters and stories that defy belief, yet are relatable and deeply human.

“With Marvel Studios’ film and TV productions becoming worldwide blockbusters and comic books finally being widely recognized as a vital part of our visual culture, there has never been a better moment for an exhibition that tells the intertwined stories of Marvel’s rise from small publisher to multimedia giant, the company’s iconic costumed characters, and the creators that forged this universe of imagination.”

Wellington Mayor Tory Whanau says she’s looking forward to welcoming the Marvel Universe to Wellington and adds “With almost half a million visitors to the exhibition and conferences hosted at Tākina already, the contribution to our local economy through retail and hospitality is out of this world, and we look forward to seeing those numbers hammered with this world-premiere exhibition coming to town.”

Tickets can be purchased from Ticketmaster and start from $17.50 for children, $29.50 concession and $34.50 for adults (New Zealand dollars). A special VIP Assembly Preview Party will be hosted on 12th December, with a limited number of 300 tickets available. General admission starts on 14th December and runs until 28th April 2024.
