Qudos Bank Arena’s new role as NSW Health mass vaccination centre
With Greater Sydney ravaged by COVID-19 cases and lockdowns, Qudos Bank Arena at Sydney Olympic Park, has stepped up as the latest venue to provide pivotal support to NSW Health - becoming a mass vaccination hub.
Australia’s largest indoor venue’s new role follows NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian having announced on 30th July that Qudos Bank Arena will be used to vaccinate up to 24,000 Year 12 students this month.
As a result, since 9th August, the Qudos Bank Arena NSW Health Vaccination Centre has been for students residing in the eight local government areas of concern - Canterbury-Bankstown, Fairfield, Liverpool, Blacktown, Cumberland, Parramatta, Campbelltown and Georges Rive - to have the Pfizer vaccine administered.
Premier Berejiklian spoke about the importance of getting “as many jabs in arms as possible” and not placing any further distractions on Year 12 students during a critical time in preparations for their upcoming HSC exams.
Behind the scenes, major works were undertaken to convert the venue into the largest mass vaccination centre in Sydney, to initially expedite the vaccinations of Year 12 students before they returned to face-to-face learning on 16th August.
Following this, the Qudos Bank Arena NSW Health Vaccination Centre is being opened up to the general public, with expectations that vaccination numbers will increase from approximately 19,000 patients per day to around 30,000 patients per day within the next few weeks.
Naming rights partner Qudos Bank have thrown full support behind the venue congratulating Qudos Bank Arena staff on being a part of a great initiative, operating as a mass vaccination hub and have expressed the pride the organisation has to be associated with such a vital operation to combat the pandemic by providing an important step forward in the vaccination of Australians.
