PVMS 2009 graduates another 42 industry professionals
The Venue Management Association's Public Venue Management School (PVMS) has just held its 2009 graduation ceremony. The ceremony saw all 42 Year Two students graduating, the graduates now able to apply to TAFE for a further Diploma.
After sixteen years the PVMS has graduated over 600 venue industry professionals, with this year's graduates successfully completing their two-years of school study, passed two examinations and completed a between years assignment, all part of the final graduating process.
Covering a total of 36 industry based subjects, presented by a team of venue and supporting industry managers and professionals, these 42 graduates now have the opportunity to apply for a further venue industry qualification - a Diploma in Venue Management (TAFE) - a nationally recognised qualification. Only graduates from the two-year PVMS are eligible to apply for this TAFE qualification which has been designed specifically to recognise the enormous changes and leadership demands of the venue industry. Chairman of the PVMS, Trevor Dohnt from the MCC said, "these outstanding individuals are clear evidence of the strength of the Venue industry educational programs being offered through VMA membership". "I am delighted with the success of the 2009 school where we also had a full year one class of 43 students all hopefully returning in 2010 to complete their final year".
The VMA has now secured the Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove venue for a further three years where the facilities and accommodation are first class and provide the perfect environment for adult learning and networking during the week long live-in school experience.
The 2009 school featured two special guests as instructors. Cliff Wallace returned after a year's absence to again teach 'Leadership & Problem Solving' as well as 'Emergency Management Preparedness'. Cliff, based in Hong Kong where he is Managing Director of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, has been a 12 year member of the PVMS faculty team and a mainstay in the management and organisation of the teaching program.
Visiting guest exchange instructor Scott Williams taught 'Customer Relations' together with 'Professional Ethics'. Scott comes to the school as the 13th invited exchange instructor and was part of the formal exchange program between schools where PVMS instructor Anthony Duffy will be guest at the IAAM school held at Oglebay, in Wheeling West Virginia in June 2010.
Together with the supporting VMA staff, academic Advisor Dr Jim Kable and other senior VMA advisors, the PVMS school in its 17th year is set to continue to grow and develop as the leading Venue industry educational program in Australia and New Zealand, for the benefit of VMA members.
