PRAV evolves into Play Australia

With the aim of becoming a national organisation providing services and support to the development of play across all states and territories in Australia - the Playground and Recreation Association of Victoria (PRAV) has been renamed Play Australia.

The Committee of Management of PRAV facilitated the transformation to accurately reflect its membership base, responding to changing needs within the many industry sectors involved in play.

In a statement Executive Director Barbara Champion explained "while PRAV is currently based in Victoria, there are a growing number of members from around Australia, which clearly demonstrates that the organisation needs to change its structure and plans to better service a national market.

"There is no equivalent organisation anywhere else in Australia, and the need is clear for PRAV to develop in such a way so as to support all of our members, and to better promote the development of play across the country."

PRAV, which has been in operation for 95 years, unanimously approved the name change at its last Annual General Meeting and the new name is now registered with the Victorian Government's Department of Consumer Affairs.

Champion now expects that Play Australia will be transformed, adding "we are hopeful of receiving funding to support a project which will assist in the development of Play Australia in consulting with members and key agencies outside Victoria so that all of our members are connected and involved.

"All states and territories have indicated support for the development of Play Australia, and we are very enthusiastic about the potential to develop an organisation which is based on networks, support and quality advice and promotion in partnership with like-minded organisations across Australia."
