Children's Input to Sydney Playground

Playground equipment voted for by youngsters has been included in the City of Sydney's new state of the art playground in Victoria Park.
Children (through their parents and family members) were given a major say in the design and final make-up of the playground, with many of their suggestions being integrated into the facility.
Set to open on 24th April, the play space will take the number of playgrounds across the City of Sydney to 83.
The new playground, set in the middle of a revitalised Victoria Park, Camperdown, has already been "road tested" by a number of children and given the thumbs up.
Features that have been especially well received include the four that received top billing on the suggestions list:
*An all-abilities climbing net and accessible swing;
*A flying fox;
*Climbing, swinging and sliding elements, including a double swing set; and
*Balancing beams, spring elements, spinning dish and pipe slide
"The public consultation process specifically sought children's views on what features would generate most interest and enthusiasm," said Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP.
"Many parents and family members also called for a shade area for younger users, and two steel and wooden pergolas have been built into the site.
"It was our goal from the start to provide a place protected from the elements specifically for toddlers and now we have a safe and accessible area for children of all ages and abilities to enjoy."
Other features of the playground supported by children across a range of age groups and their families include nature play areas; a toddler's tricycle loop; low barrier fencing around the toddler's area; easy to reach bubblers; seating and five new trees have been planted close to the playground to provide maximum shade and a rest area. The shading will improve as the trees fully mature. Native plants surround the play area.
