PPCA to Appeal Australian Music Licensing Decision
The Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA), Australia's recording industry association, has made an application to appeal a December Australian Federal Court Ruling on proposed increases to the Fitness Industry Tariff.
The Australian Federal Court overturned a ruling that would have increased Australian health club music licensing fees by 1,500%, raising the costs from $0.97 per exercise class to $15 per class.
If the PPCA application is heard by the High Court, it is likely to be held during the autumn. While the issue is pending, any further proceedings in the Copyright Tribunal will be deferred. The current Licence Scheme for Tariff V will remain in place until this is resolved.
