Port Hedland's Gratwick gym moves towards 24/7 operations

Gym users at Port Hedland's Gratwick Aquatic Centre will be soon able to access round-the-clock fitness facilities.

Town of Port Hedland Mayor Kelly Howlett said that she was delighted the Town had made provision for members of the community to be able to experience a greater level of access to the gym at Gratwick Aquatic Centre.

Mayor Howlett stated “the Town of Port Hedland recognised the need for more health and fitness facilities in Port Hedland, over the last three years the Town has seen a massive improvement to the gym facilities available to the community.

“The move to a 24-hour operation of the Gratwick Aquatic Centre gym ensures that members can have access to the gym facilities at Gratwick Aquatic Centre regardless of seasonal operational changes, working commitments and shift rosters that are unique to our community.”

To accommodate this Mayor Howlett thanked community member for their cooperation while necessary works were taking place at the facility over recent weeks.

Commenting on the upgrades, the Mayor added “we have undertaken upgrades to the gym facility, installed new fencing, telecommunications systems and a swipe-card mechanism so that the gym can be accessible without staff being on the premises.

“We will be trialling the access system for a period of time before 24 hour access is possible. Initially the hours of operation will be 5am – 8pm daily.

“The Town of Port Hedland is delighted to continue to partner with YMCA, who manages the Town’s leisure facilities at Gratwick Aquatic Centre, South Hedland Aquatic Centre and Wanangkura Stadium.”

Port Hedland Leisure members and users of the facility must undertake an induction on how to access the gym, and familiarise themselves with safety measures and procedures before availing of the 24-hour service.
