New details emerge of plans for Great Ocean Road hot springs resort
A planned wellness resort to be built on a site near the 12 Apostles on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road will feature 150 luxury cabins, a thermal wellness spa and conference facilities.
Having acquired the site late last year - for a sum believed to be in excess of $15 million - details of Sydney-based developer Sheargold Group plans for the 79-hectare site at Booringa Road, Princetown have emerged with planning approval having now been granted for the development.
Speaking at the time of acquisition, Sheargold Managing Director, Michael Sheargold stated “we are excited to announce we have secured the iconic 12 Apostles Hot Springs and Resort development site.
“This acquisition represents an exciting opportunity for our organisation and team in a globally growing industry, expanding into a new geographical market and sector. I’m confident our experience over 60 years developing great projects across the residential, industrial and commercial sectors, along with our deep understanding of what it takes to deliver major regional projects, will stand us in good stead for the delivery of the 12 Apostles Hot Springs and Resort.”
Sheargold said it had already started putting together a project team, appointing Genton as the architects.
Advising that they are looking forward to delivering “an iconic experience in this famous location”, Genton Principal, Steven Toia commented “the 12 Apostles carved from the mainland’s limestone cliffs, are one of Australia’s great natural icons.
“We see our design reflecting this impressive Australian landscape, inspired by this very special place along the Australian coast.”
The thermal water feeding the site has been confirmed about 1 kilometre below the ground.
One of the most visited sites in regional Australia, the 12 Apostles lacks accommodation.
