Plan for luxury apartments to ring Perth's Claremont Oval

New images of the proposed redevelopment of Claremont Oval have been revealed - one of a number of proposed urban redevelopments which combine Perth’s love of sport with a desire for luxury living.

The new artist’s impressions show how Claremont Oval will look within five to 10 years, when the luxury apartment complex The Grandstand, part of the $1 billion Claremont on the Park development is completed.

More than half the apartments at the Mirvac development have already been sold off the plan, confirming the growing desire for people to have a view of sporting grounds from their living rooms.

Plans are in place for a similar development at Bassendean Oval, the residential development at the former Perry Lakes Stadium is nearly complete, and some believe East Fremantle Oval could benefit from a similar residential revamp.

In addition, executives at Western Australian Cricket are apparently still open to a possible future residential development near the WACA Ground, despite the 2013 collapse of a planned $500 million project with Ascot Capital.

And the future of Domain Stadium in Subiaco appears almost certain to include residential development after the new Perth Stadium opens in Burswood.

At the Claremont Oval, the six-storey Grandstand project will follow the curve of the venue, offering one-bedroom apartments will cost from $450,000, two-bedroom apartments from $695,000 and three-bedroom apartments from $1.025 million.

AFL legend, civil engineer and Claremont club Chief Executive Graham Moss said he was convinced the residential project around the ground would be the first of many in Perth.

Moss explained “it is a win/win for us and the developers, who get to work in one of the most iconic football spots in the State.”

The Grandstand development is part of the $1 billion Claremont North East Precinct development, announced almost six years ago. The first residential tranche, called The Pocket, is nearly finished, with the developers promising buyers a Tigers membership to go with their new home.

Late last year, the Western Australian Government announced a smaller scale development around Bassendean Oval, the home of Swan Districts. A recent residents’ survey revealed locals wanted to retain the ground’s historic facade, gates and rose gardens and also wanted a mix of townhouses, apartments and affordable housing on the site.

A plan for the Bassendean project is due to be unveiled mid-year, with construction pencilled in to start in 2018.
