Perth Motorplex advises patrons to 'beware of the scams'

Western Australian motorsport venue the Perth Motorplex has released advise on social media warning patrons to 'beware of the scams'.

Australian Leisure Management understands that enthusiasts undertaking online searches for tickets for events are being redirected to websites and resale platform that look official, but which leaves the buyer vulnerable to overpriced or fake tickets that could be cancelled or made invalid.

Those accessing the fake sites are also being contacted to purchase live streams for events and with ‘friend’ requests.

In its post, with an image of the fake sites, Perth Motorplex advise that “its frustrating that we have to even say this ... but this is not us”, adding Perth Motorplex will never:

  • Make a personal profile

  • Make an individual profile for our events

  • Attempt to contact our fans via Direct messages, or friend requests

  • Try to contact you regarding a live stream, or paid streams

It goes on to say “please report these scam accounts directly to the relevant moderators or management of the various platforms.”

Western Australian consumer rights and complaints agency Commerce WA is understood to have received a number of complaints about fake tickets being sold for events at the venue.
