Sydney-based event planner gets 15 year jail term for fraud

Sydney event planner Helen Rosamond has been jailed for a maximum of 15 years after being found guilty of defrauding millions of dollars from NAB by falsifying and inflating invoices for services from her event company Human Group.

Rosamond embezzled more than $9 million from the bank between 2013 and 2018 alongside Rosemary Rogers, former chief-of-staff to senior NAB executives, who is currently serving an eight-year sentence.

The duo used the stolen money to fund their opulent lifestyles blowing millions on luxury holidays and expensive boats.

Rosamond blamed Rogers, describing their relationship as toxic, but Judge Robert Sutherland said in sentencing this week “the relationship between these two co-offenders was clearly symbiotic”.

With a jury finding Rosamond guilty in November, her sentence, handed down yesterday by Judge Robert Sutherland will see her eligible for parole in December 2030.

Judge Sutherland stated “the overarching motivation of the offender is accurately described as one of greed, self-gratification and enrichment.”

Rogers pleaded guilty to corruptly receiving benefits for her role in the same scheme in February 2020 and is serving a maximum jail sentence of eight years with a non-parole period of four years and four months.

Advising that the bank has since overhauled its processes around expenses, Sharon Cook, NAB Group Executive, Legal and Commercial Services stated “the issue was first reported to us by a whistleblower and NAB thanks them for coming forward and alerting us to the fraud.”
