Perisher opens with best snow in a decade

Following a week of heavy snowfalls (58cm of fresh snow since Sunday 7th June) Saturday 13th June saw Towers Run on Mt Perisher open for skiing and boarding.

10 lifts are now operating across Perisher Valley and Smiggin Holes and the PlayStation Slopestyle course on Front Valley now contains a 20-foot table top in addition to other impressive features.

Perisher is gearing up for another big snow season in 2009, having invested heavily in expanding snowmaking, upgrading and improving sites and developing new Snowsports School programs in readiness for the winter season. In addition, the resort has a new look and made a subtle change to its name - the resort now simply being known as 'Perisher'. New branding also reflects the amalgam of all four-resort areas under one name.

The resort has also spent $5.7 million on new snowmaking infrastructure, as part of Perisher's three-year $19 million dollar investment in snowmaking expansions and upgrades.

Two groomers have also been added to what is Australia's biggest snow-grooming fleet which ensure Perisher has over 100 groomed trails.
