Owner of Phillip Island’s A Maze'N Things heads to retirement

Geoff Moed, owner of Phillip Island attraction A Maze'N Things for 30 years, has revealed that the business has been sold and he is entering retirement.

Moed, who opened the site in 1991, and partner Sandy Bell have sold the attraction and adjacent A Maze'N Things Holiday Park to holiday park operator the Park Lane Group.

Explaining the sale, Moed advise “I reached 62 years of age and decided that I didn't want to die a successful businessman, but rather die as a successful businessman that had an enjoyable retirement after selling his business.

“Whilst the pandemic posed a lot of issues and closed us for seven months, it was not the main driver. After a while, dealing with 130,000 customers, 60 plus staff, increasing red-tape and regulations, takes its toll and I decided enough was enough.”

Speaking to The Bass Coast News last year as he put the business on the market, he explained that he had loved seeing people enjoy themselves, commenting “every time you add something new, more people come and then they keep coming back.

“We have kids of people who use to work for us, parents who came when they were in primary school coming back regularly.

“Half the kids on the island had birthday parties here.”

Moed said the most challenging part of the business was keeping motivated and thinking of new attractions to introduce, adding “it’s still got so much potential, it’s a prime tourist destination and in great location.”

The A Maze'N Things attraction has a range of interactive displays, optical illusions, magic exhibitions, mazes, minigolf and ropes course.

The accommodation comprises of 18 motel rooms, 15 cabins, 11 powered and 54 annual sites and two camping sites.

A Maze'N Games in Wallington closed in October 2020 with the site owner converting it to a service station.
