One Direction break Allphones Arena sales record
After 26 shows across Australia and New Zealand, pop superstars One Direction performed their seventh and final Sydney show at Allphones Arena last Saturday night (27th October) to another sell-out crowd breaking the venue's record for ticket sales by a group and longest run for a single tour.
Ticket sales for One Direction's seven Allphones Arena shows were 81,542 breaking the record of 74,244 held by Metallica since 2010.
To celebrate the milestone, Allphones Arena presented each member of One Direction with a Gold Microphone and unveiled the very first Star honouring a musical group or entertainer in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct. The plaque now holds pride of place outside the main entrance to Allphones Arena to forever commemorate their achievement.
A delighted Allphones Arena General Manager Guy Ngata explained "epic and extraordinary are words too commonly used these days.
"One Direction's run of seven performances at Allphones Arena was just outstanding.
"81,542 screaming fans across six perfect October days will be something difficult to ever repeat let alone break.
"Thank you Nine Live, Sony Music and everyone involved with this amazing tour and most importantly to One Direction, you gave us all reason to scream!"
Commenting on the tour Nine Live General Manager Leon Spellson added "Nine Live and Sony Music as the tours co promoters are so proud to be associated with the One Direction 2013 Take Me Home Australian & New Zealand Tour.
"Congratulations to the boys for this remarkable achievement. The band put on a great show every night of the tour to their incredibly loyal and enthusiastic fans."
