Olympic gold medallist Kyle Chalmers backs Swimming Australia’s Junior Dolphins program
Olympic swimming champion Kyle Chalmers has described a Swimming Australia initiative to get more youngsters in the pool as massive for the sport.
Chalmers, fellow Rio Olympics gold medallist Mack Horton and Victorian swimmer Kotuku Ngawati were at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre on Saturday to launch the Junior Dolphins program – Swimming Australia’s junior participation scheme.
The program will offer a fun, safe and social environment in which children will have the opportunity to learn skills and develop through games and swimming activities.
Backing the program, Chalmers told the Adelaide Advertiser “this is a progression from swim schools to club swimming.
“This is about getting people in the pool and getting them to love swimming.
“The Marion pool is the best facility in Australia so we should be taking advantage of it.”
Launched by Swimming Australia last year, Optus Junior Dolphins has been created to encourage children to have fun with their friends while improving their swimming, without the pressure of competition or serious training. With swimming a favourite pastime for many Australians, Optus Junior Dolphins is aiming to give children the opportunity to learn skills and develop personally through games and swimming activities.
YMCA Swimming Lessons, at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre, is one of a number of swimming schools and swimming clubs that will be delivering the program across Australia.
The program will offer a fun, safe and social environment that gives children the opportunity to learn skills and develop personally through games and swimming activities.
