Function room and accommodation plans revealed for Taronga Western Plains Zoo
Taronga Western Plains Zoo has unveiled plans for a $24 million redevelopment that includes a new function room, restaurant and accommodation.
The plans submitted to Dubbo Regional Council include the 300-capacity Serengeti function centre and 170-seat restaurant along with 10 duplexes, a pool, new internal roadways, carparking and other landscapes.
Planning documents state the proposed development will generate additional revenue to support the zoo’s goal of protecting and educating the public on conservation practices.
They advise “the proposal shall generate its own renewable energy, harvesting water and encouraging sustainable choices by its users.
“The proposal shall further complement and enhance the existing Taronga Western Plains Zoo as it will support its current exhibits, accommodation, and tourism.”
“The social and economic impacts of the proposed development relate to the expansion of existing facilities on a site that is used for tourism in the city of Dubbo.”
