NZRA to play greater role in outdoor recreation
The New Zealand Recreation Association (NZRA) is to take a greater role in outdoor recreation having recently come to an agreement with Sport New Zealand and Outdoors New Zealand for NZRA to provide leadership, advocacy and professional development in the outdoor recreation sector.
Earlier this year, the NZRA, which shares office space in Wellington with Outdoors NZ, begun providing management support to the New Zealand Outdoor Instructors Association.
Explaining the move, NZRA Chief Executive Andrew Leslie wrote to NZRA members this week stating "NZRA has previously worked closely with Outdoors New Zealand in the outdoor recreation space and will continue to do so over the coming year.
"While we know a fair bit about outdoor recreation, we will be establishing an advisory committee to provide advice to the NZRA Board on key priorities for the outdoor recreation sector, and will be looking for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable Outdoor Recreation Project Manager to join our team.
"I’m keen for NZRA to build on New Zealand’s reputation for remarkable outdoor recreation experiences, by providing leadership for organisations and professionals working in New Zealand's great outdoors.
"For most New Zealanders there is no divide between the recreation they participate in within the boundaries of their towns and cities and what they do in the great outdoors. Nor should there be. I firmly believe that NZRA’s expanded role will help to link the wider spectrum of recreation opportunities more seamlessly, making it easier for all New Zealanders to discover and enjoy the recreation that best suits them."
NZRA's National Conference is being held in Christchurch from 26th to 28th November.
