NSW Health releases new resources in ‘Clean Pools for Healthy Swimming’ campaign
NSW Health has released a series of new resources as part of its ‘Clean Pools for Healthy Swimming’ campaign - an ongoing initiative that aims to reduce Cryptosporidium outbreaks in swimming pools and spa pools.
The new resources include a guide: Public Swimming Pool & Spa Requirements - A short guide for operators of public swimming pools and a series of A4 posters suitable for displaying on the back of toilet doors at aquatic centres and aquatic playgrounds.
The consistent message of the educational campaign is to ensure that people ‘Don’t swim if they have had diarrhoea in the past two weeks’.
NSW Health recommends that the Cryptosporidium prevention brochures are handed out when children are registered for swimming lessons, also suggesting that it is good policy to allow make-up lessons when a child is sick in order to encourage parents to keep their children at home and out of the pool, which helps prevent the spread of diseases in swimming pools.
Available resources include:
Brochure - A guide to clean pools for healthy swimming
Brochure - Public swimming pool and spa pool requirements
Poster - Steps to healthy swimming (boy)
Poster - Steps to healthy swimming (girl)
Poster - Steps to healthy swimming (school)
Poster - Steps to healthy water play
Fact sheet - Healthy swimming pools
A fact sheet on aquatic playgrounds will be released soon.
