NRL clubs set new membership record

Clubs competing in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition have broken the game’s all-time membership record.

After five rounds of the NRL Telstra Premiership the 16 clubs have signed up 228,820 members, which is more than the total 2013 membership numbers.

Commenting on the achievement, NRL Head of Marketing Lewis Pullen stated "it’s great to set a new record and it’s fantastic that revenue for the clubs has also grown.

“However, we’re still focused on growing membership throughout the rest of the season.

“Clubs still have plenty of great membership packages available.”

The 2014 Club Membership race has six weeks remaining with the Broncos currently leading race one, based on overall members signed. The Panthers are leading race two based on the percentage increase.

Seven clubs have also surpassed their all-time membership numbers.

Pullen added “it’s been an incredible start to the 2014 season.

“After five rounds, 24 underdogs have won 40 games this season, which has been great for the competition and people’s passion for the game.”
