New Sponsor for Kangaroo Hoppet

The Falls Creek-based cross country skiing event that kicks of the Worldloppet series of long-distance ski races, held in 15 countries around the world, has a new partner AGL Hydro, Australiaâs largest private producer of renewable energy.
Fall Creek Resort Management (FCRM) sees the partnership as being âparticularly appropriate partnership on numerous levels.? In a recent statement FCRM highlighted that âAGL strongly supports the âKeep Winter Coolâ initiative (wherein) the Alpine industry is taking a responsible leadership role in climate awareness? and that âAGL Energy is building the 140MW Bogong Hydro Power Station at the half way point between Mt Beauty and Falls Creek.?
AGL Hydro employ 75 people, with the vast majority coming from within the local community, the statement adding that the Bogong Hydro Power Station âwill create new renewable energy from existing water resource, with minimal impact on the environment.?
The statement highlighted that Falls Creek Ski Lifts uses energy-efficient snow producers and three popular chairlifts at the largest alpine resort in Victoria run on renewable/green power/energy.
It also stated that âFCRM is steadily reducing the amount of power it uses?, adding that over the last eight years its energy consumption has decrease by 7%.?
This year's 42 kilometre Kangaroo Hoppet was held in ideal conditions with AGL expressing its satisfaction with its decision to support Australia's largest on-snow event.
The colourful event sees participants from about 25 overseas nations join hundreds of Australian cross-country skiing enthusiasts in this marathon-length ski race held on the last weekend of August.
