New Qantas adverting campaign promotes travel for a vaccinated nation

Qantas has released an advertising campaign encouraging Australians to look forward to what a travel and tourism may look like when the majority of the country is vaccinated.

With images of people flying overseas to visit loved ones, the campaign tugs at the heartstrings of those wanting to travel to international destinations, following the story of three sets of travellers as they leave the country.

Acting as a de-facto pro-vaccination campaign promotion, the advertisement, set to the Tones and I song Fly Away is high on emotion and has been praised for promoting what the future might offer when vaccination rates are high enough.

Dr Nick Coatsworth, an infectious diseases physician and Australia’s former Deputy Chief Health Officer, who featured in one of the Federal Government’s original Covid-19 ads, applauded the Qantas campaign.

Sharing the advertisement on Twitter, Dr Coatsworth wrote “this is how you get people looking forward to what a vaccinated society looks like.”

The advertisement is part of Qantas’ ‘Be Rewarded’ campaign, which offers discounts and incentives to vaccinated customers and is part of a growing trend of pro-vaccination advertising campaigns from organisations in the business and arts communities, such as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

The advertisement has also been praised for its inclusive representation.
