New OCBC Aquatic Centre encourages water safety and elite performance
Facilities at Singapore's new OCBC Aquatic Centre, part of the Singapore Sports Hub, are offering local residents the opportunity to improve their water safety and swimming skills while also being a location for elite coaching and competition.
Abutting Singapore's new National Stadium, the OCBC Aquatic Centre, which houses two 50 metre pools for competition and training along with a 5 metre deep diving pool, is available for lap swimming on a daily basis - although the pools are closed during elite competition.
A spokeperson for the Centre explains "lap swimming is an excellent workout for everyone from the aquatic enthusiast to the occasional swimmer.
"Regular exercise in an aquatic environment is an ideal way to enjoy the benefits of a training workout program that will enable you to stay fit, healthy and well."
Home to the Singapore Swimming Association, the Centre is also offering learn-to-swim programs and the SportCares youth enrichment program, initiated by the national agency Sport Singapore.
Meeting the international standards of world-swimming governing body FINA, the 3,000 seat venue is enabled for elite competition, with the 10 lane competition pool and eight lane training pool soon to be put to the test during the Singapore Swim Stars Event from 3rd to 6th September.
Next to the centre, the yet-to-open Splash-N-Surf waterpark will feature waterslides, a lazy river water ride and a Murphy Waves surf simulator.
An opening date for the waterpark has yet to be announced.
