New Fitness Australia Chairman David Allan discusses his role
Following his election as Chairman of Fitness Australia’s Board of Directors last month, David Allan says his first job will be to listen to as many stakeholders as he can.
As Allan explains “if I don’t keep my clients and customers engaged, happy and feeling positive about our interaction then I won’t have a successful or sustainable business.
“Much like the way I will treat my new role as Chairman.”
About 10 years ago it became apparent to Allan that for the fitness industry to continue its success and be sustainable it needed a strong body to address key issues. He witnessed first-hand all of the work that Fitness Australia and an industry taskforce did to combat the music copyright issue all those years ago.
As he recalls “the way this issue unfolded really crystallised the importance of having a strong association which can work for the benefit of the whole industry.”
One of Allan’s goals as Chairman is to put context and voice where industry sees as an important focus.
Here he states “as a team we have a strong focus on demonstrating the strong value in engaging and being part of the peak industry association.
“To influence the industry my fellow directors, the Fitness Australia team and I need to continue to deliver on the mid-term and longer term strategies of the association.
“The industry research we’ve just undertaken will support our direction and objectives over the next 12 months. (It will be) an exciting time to be part of Fitness Australia and our dynamic industry.
“This process has commenced and we are excited to explore where we believe that the industry can grow and develop. The only thing constant is change, and the industry continues to do this so it’s critical to look at where it can head, and prepare accordingly.”
Working in his local fitness centre and starting his sports science degree almost 30 years ago, Allan recalls that his father asked him when he’d ‘get a real job’. Now he’s the happy owner of 38X Fitness and new Chairman of Fitness Australia.
