First State of Origin sees debut of LED Smart Goal posts

Last week’s State of Origin game 1 at Sydney’s Accor Stadium saw the debut of LED Smart Goal posts able to communicate game activity as well as provide fan engagement with embedded broadcast cameras.

Developed by Cross Bar Promotions, owned by former NRL star Benny Elias and partner Neil Maxwell, the posts were installed by SureVision who, in a social media post, advised “ in conjunction with our technology partner D2P, (we) designed, developed, installed and operated the posts to over 80,000 fans at … at Accor Stadium.”

Smart posts, able to light up in different colours to show whether a kick is successful, were first trialled at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh city of Cardiff in 2019, working in a similar way to how wickets light up in Twenty20 cricket.
