New discount scheme to boost Northern Territory 2024 tourism season

The Northern Territory tourism and hospitality sector is being given a boost by the Territory Government’s new Tourism Discount Scheme set to commence at the end of this month.

The Territory Tourism Discount scheme will see Territorians and visitors receive a 25% discount on tourism product and experiences undertaken across the Northern Territory when making a booking through one of the Territory’s Visitor Information Centres located in Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs and Yulara.

With a total funding pool of $1 million the Territory Tourism Discount Scheme is available for all bookings up to $5,000, with the 25 % discount applied when purchasing the bookable product (excluding retail items and gift certificates), with the streamlined process enabling Territorians to purchase multiple tourism experiences or products during the scheme period.

With sales from 29th February through to 30th April 2024, the Territory Tourism Discount Scheme will not only provide a welcome boost to operators during the traditionally quieter tourism season but also make exploring the Territory more affordable for Territorians and visitors during the Easter school break.

An investment in tourism and hospitality is important for the future of the Territory economy and liveability for Territorians. The tourism sector is an important employer and provides 6,900 jobs across the NT, with many of these businesses small to medium sized enterprises.

The Territory Tourism Discount Scheme has been developed in partnership with the Northern Territory Regional Tourism Organisations, Tourism Top End and Tourism Central Australia, along with the Katherine Town Council.

Tourism Central Australia Chief Executive, Danial Rochford noted “We all know that Central Australia and the Barkly are an iconic destinations, full of incredible tourism experiences, and we welcome the Northern Territory Government’s Territory Tourism Discount Scheme to allow visitors to experience it at a discounted cost.

“The support of our industry through this scheme will also give operators a boost to their 2024 season and we are ready to get behind the campaign and encourage all of our members to welcome visitors to the Red Centre.”

Tourism Top End General Manager Samantha Bennett added “Tourism Top End and the Visitor Information Centres in Darwin and Katherine are super excited that the NT Government are supporting the NT tourism industry with the Territory Tourism Discount Scheme.

“It is an opportunity for Territorians to get out and explore their backyards and our regional areas. By supporting our tourism sector, Territorians get to have fun, create lasting memories and keep locals in jobs.”

Katherine Town Council Chief Executive Ingrid Stonhill enthused “The Katherine Visitor Centre is excited by the announcement of the Territory Tourism Discount Scheme.

“This initiative supports our local tourism businesses as they head into their 2024 season and is a great opportunity for Territorians to explore the Katherine and Big Rivers Region at a discounted cost.”
