New Derrimut 24:7 gym served with eviction notice prior to planned opening

Troubled fitness chain Derrimut 24:7 has been dealt a blow prior to the opening of a new gym in Adelaide’s outer northern suburbs with a termination-of-tenancy notice posted on the doors of its soon-to-open facility in the suburb of Munno Para.

The action follows the gym being evicted from other premises at Angle Vale in Adelaide’s north last month amid claims of about $220,000 in unpaid rent.

Having commenced pre-sale for the Munno Para location online late in February, the group has since then advised that opening was “right around the corner”.

However, as of last Friday the eviction notice was placed on the doors of the new facility claiming the gym owes around $54,000 in rent.

Following the closure of the Angle Vale gym posted on its Instagram informing members that the gym had closed permanently advising that memberships would be placed on hold until the opening of a new nearby gym.

After the closure, owner of Derrimut 24:7 Gym Nikolaos Solomos (who is disputing an Australian Taxation Office of claim of more than $11 million in unpaid taxes, declared his business was “stronger and bigger than we’ve ever been before”.

As reported by Adelaide's The Advertiser, promotional videos of the upcoming Munno Para site promised the ultimate gym experience, featuring a basketball court, a ladies only gym, reformer Pilates, a nutrition bar and state-of-the-art equipment.

After the closure of the Angle Vale gym, Solomos released a video on Instagram aiming to sooth the concerns of staff and members, saying his business was “stronger and bigger than we’ve ever been before”.

The troubled chain is also understood to owe significant sums to equipment suppliers for equipment supply while the bad publicity it is attracting is concerning industry leaders.
