New campaign released across Northern Territory encourages a career in tourism

The NT Choose Tourism campaign is being released across the Territory aimed at inspiring young people, First Nations Territorians and people living with a disability to pursue a career in tourism

The new campaign highlights the exciting and rewarding nature of a job in tourism, raising interest and understanding of tourism careers and training pathways in the Top End.

Delivered by Tourism NT and funded by a $450,000 grant from the Federal Government, the new campaign will promote a range of career opportunities such as  tour guides, event planners, travel agents, and roles in hotel management and hospitality.

The campaign will use social media, Google, Spotify and YouTube to build awareness of tourism careers for young people, First Nations Territorians and people living with a disability. In addition, a $200,000 tourism workforce, training and ambassador program will also be delivered by the Industry Skills Advisory Council NT (ISACNT) to capitalise on the success of the campaign.

Tourism is an important economic driver in the Territory contributing around $1.5 billion to the NT economy and supporting around 12,500 workers.

The Choose Tourism Grants program is helping to rebuild Australia's tourism workforce by offering State and Territory governments and tourism bodies a share of $7.5 million for programs to attract workers to the tourism industry.

NT Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, Joel Bowden notes “From tour guide to travel agent, event planner to hotel manager, there’s a career for everyone in our home-grown tourism and hospitality industry.

“Our campaign is opening pathways for Territorians into stable and secure work – which not only boosts our economy, but also strengthens our local communities.

“This will empower our young people, First Nations people or people living with a disability to take up the full range of study and job opportunities on offer right across the Territory.”

Industry Skills Advisory Council NT Chief Executive, Amelia Nuku enthused “We are thrilled to partner with Tourism NT and the Australian Government on the Choose Tourism campaign and we look forward to seeing a new cohort of Territorians considering careers in tourism.

“Through ISACNT’s career ambassador program we aim to inspire our young people, First Nations Territorians and those living with a disability to consider a job or study pathway they may have not realised is possible.

“Our targeted campaign will share success stories and personal testimonies of those who’ve gain successful employment in the industry.”

The NT Choose Tourism campaign will run to June 2024.
