New Board members appointed for Western Australia’s Botanic Garden and Parks Authority

Western Australia’s Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority, which oversees the operation of Kings Park and Bold Park will benefit from the wealth of local knowledge and experience of three new Board members.

The new appointees have extensive experience in conservation, cultural heritage and sustainability.

Barbara Bynder is a proud Whadjuk Ballardong Noongar woman. She has extensive experience working across government and corporate projects as a university lecturer, consultant, researcher, artist and educator.

Professor Joshua Byrne will also join the Board, bringing his national profile on urban sustainability. The environmental scientist has authored publications and industry guides on water sensitive design, energy efficient housing and sustainable urban development.

Sally Audeyev has more than two decades experience as a commercial projects lawyer, managing Native Title and heritage agreements, land tenure and environmental aspects of project development. A partner at King and Wood Mallesons, she is at the forefront of improving practices for Indigenous issues following the destruction of Juukan Gorge.

The new members will oversee a range of exciting initiatives for Kings Park and Bold Park.

WA Environment Minister Reece Whitby noted "the new appointees have extensive experience in conservation, cultural heritage and sustainability, and I'm confident they will play a vital role overseeing the management of the iconic parks in their care.

"I would like to thank outgoing Board members Clare Hayman, Sonia Nolan, Helen Rowe and Nyomi Horgan who have made a significant contribution to the Botanic Garden and Parks Authority during their tenure."
