Management plan released for Kings Park and Botanic Garden
The Western Australian Government has released the Kings Park and Botanic Garden Management Plan 2021-2026 - which guides the management of the park over the next five years.
Developed by the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority in consultation with stakeholders and the community, the plan focuses on five key management areas:
community engagement and participation;
visitor experiences;
science and environmental conservation;
plant collections and displays; and
amenity and infrastructure.
Kings Park and Botanic Garden is one of the world's most beautiful inner-city parks and attracts about five million visitors each year.
As well as spectacular views of Perth and the Swan River, the park provides diverse opportunities for recreation, tourism, and cultural and ceremonial events.
Its expansive landscaped gardens, rich Aboriginal cultural heritage, significant memorials and natural bushland spaces have created a park highly valued by the people of Western Australia.
Kings Park is also home to the Western Australian Botanic Garden, a significant botanical resource for scientific and horticultural research, education and it plays a key role in the conservation of WA's unique flora.
WA Environment Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson notes "for more than one hundred years Kings Park and Botanic Garden has been a significant place for all Western Australians, but its history stretches well beyond European settlement.
"The Kings Park and Botanic Garden Management Plan acknowledges and celebrates Noongar culture and knowledge of the land, and balances a diverse range of functions in the interest of the environment and the community.
"The plan will help ensure one of the world's most beautiful inner-city parks continues to be treasured by Western Australians and visitors for generations to come."
