Kings Park named one of the world’s top 10 parks

The TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards have named Perth's Kings Park as one of the world’s top 10 parks, and also acclaimed the park as the best in Australia.

Welcoming the naming of Kings Park as the sixth best park in the world in the 2014 TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards, Western Australian Environment Minister Albert Jacob stated “I’m delighted that travellers from around the world have recognised the wonders of Kings Park, which those of us who live in Perth already know and enjoy."

“Outstanding reviews about Kings Park are posted on TripAdvisor by visitors from all over the world every day, and it was ranked the sixth best park in the world, ahead of the famous Park Guell in Barcelona and the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris.

“Kings Park is renowned for its conservation work, scientific research, leading horticulture and public education, and to be ranked best in Australia and sixth in the world is a wonderful achievement by the staff and volunteers.

“The park is a place of inspiration, relaxation, recreation and wonder and something we proudly share with interstate and overseas visitors. Nearly six million people visit the park every year.”

One of the world’s largest inner city parks, Kings Park draws visitors in with sweeping views of the river, city skyline and the Darling Ranges to the east.

Minister Jacob added “the park is home to the spectacular Western Australian Botanic Garden, which displays more than 3,000 species of the State’s unique flora, most of which can’t be found anywhere else on Earth.”

Kings Park also offers children’s play and discovery areas, bushland walk trails, a treetop walk and large expanses of perfectly maintained lawns. It also features cafes, the Aspects of Kings Park gallery shop and a visitor information centre. Two thirds of the 400 hectare park is protected as native bushland.
