Puffing Billy Running Festival 2025 offers scenic race events for runners of all ages and abilities

The Puffing Billy Running Festival - a two-day rail and running adventure returns to the Dandenong Ranges 13th and 14th September – offering an array of scenic race events.

Held across two action-packed days, the 2025 Festival invites runners of all ages and abilities to take part  - whether you're chasing a personal best or cheering from the tracks, there's something for everyone.

Day One: Family Fun at Emerald Lake Park
Saturday kicks off at 10.00 am with the popular 1.2km Kids Dash and 5km Family Fun Run/Walk, set around the picturesque Emerald Lake Park. With the Puffing Billy steam train sounding off in the background, little legs and family teams alike will be encouraged along the trail. After the race, enjoy a day of free family entertainment and activities at the Lakeside Visitor Centre.

Day Two: The Classic Race Against the Train
Sunday sees the return of the legendary 13.5km ‘Classic’, where up to 2,500 runners will challenge the mighty Puffing Billy from Belgrave to Emerald Lake Park starting at 8.45 am. Family and friends can hop aboard the train to cheer runners on.

Puffing Billy Railway’s Lakeside Visitor Centre will once again serve as the Festival’s Finish Zone, offering a variety of food and beverage options at the Railway Café as well as the opportunity to bask in the serene natural beauty of Emerald Lake Park post-race.

This event would not be possible without the support of Puffing Billy Railway’s dedicated volunteers.

Proceeds from the Festival help fund essential heritage restoration projects.
