New all-weather pitch opened at St Patrick's College in Kilbirnie

A new artificial turf sportsfield has been opened at St Patrick's College in the Wellington suburb of Kilbirnie.

Formally opened at the beginning of June by New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Bill English and City of Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown, the all-weather pitch has been in use for several weeks prior to regular use by the College's football and rugby teams.

In addition to the playing field, the development includes two warm up areas and a fully synthetic four lane cricket practise area.

The 9,000 metre2 artificial turf surface is a Hybrid 60 surface with an underlying 23mm recycled foam shockpad supplied and installed by TEAM Sports Surfaces.

This is the sixth such sportsfield in the region with the City Council paying $800,000 (half the total cost) and the College paying the rest.

As well as being used for college football and rugby, the new turf will also be available for other sports.

For TEAM Sports Surfaces this is their second installation in the Wellington/Hutt region following their installation of the surface for the FIFA Goal project at Memorial Park, Petone. The Petone facility serves as New Zealand Football's Central Technical Centre and the headquarters of Capital Football Federation.

Team Sports Surfaces have also recently employed Pip Watson as their new Sales Manager.
