New $394 million Accelerate plan to enhance Queensland’s sporting lifestyle

The Queensland Government has released a new three-year $394 million Activate! Queensland Action Plan: Accelerate 2022-2025 aimed at keeping Queenslanders active and healthy.

Queensland Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said Accelerate would see new and continuing investment in community sport and noted “we know community sport is where we can make the biggest and direct difference to the lives of Queenslanders and protect Queensland’s great lifestyle as we grow.”

Aligned with Queensland’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Plan, Accelerate centres on five key commitments:

• Collaborate with the active industry to get more Queenslanders moving

• Enhance pathways for Queensland’s athletes, coaches, and officials

• Operate precincts and venues that serve community and industry from grassroots to elite

• Champion an industry leading network of infrastructure across Queensland

• Leverage events and opportunities.

The Queensland Government is investing an extra $80.2 million into Accelerate to deliver early Games legacies for local sport.

Minister Hinchliffe added “the additional $80.2 million steps up our action plan to $394 million for keeping Queenslanders active and healthy.

“We’re boosting financial support for young Queensland athletes, coaches and officials with help to cover costs of attending for state, national and international competition events.

The Accelerate plan continues the state government’s investment in popular programs like FairPlay vouchers to reduce the financial barriers to young Queenslanders getting on a team or involved in active recreation while the Deadly Active and First Nations Sport and Recreation Programs focuses on physical activity opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.
