Cairns Regional Council funds mountain bike economic project and continues to support North Queensland Sports Foundation

Cairns Regional Council is providing the Cairns Mountain Bike Club Inc with $7,280 in funding to determine the economic impacts of mountain biking in Cairns.

Mountain biking is increasing in popularity around the world and the Smithfield mountain bike path is recognised as a world-class asset.

The 2017 Mountain Bike World Championships were held at the site and this year it will host the Crankworx World Tour.

The Economic Impact of Mountain Biking in Cairns Project will consider the mountain biking sector based on existing assets and events, as well as impacts of an expanded trail network.

Council is also continuing its support for North Queensland Sports Foundation with a three-year, $144,000 funding agreement.

The NQSF was established in 1983 and aims to improve sporting opportunities within North Queensland via numerous programs, including the North Queensland Games, NQ Sportstar Awards and the Great Western Games.
