Cairns Showgrounds to host new youth music festival

Cairns Showgrounds will be hosting the Sounds Bout Right youth music festival on 1st May with Cairns Regional Council providing $25,000 to support the event’s staging.

Sounds Bout Right is a new music festival targeting Cairns youth and featuring contemporary performers including What So Not, Boy & Bear, and The Veronicas, has secured Council support.

About 5000 people are expected to attend the event, more than a quarter forecast to be from outside the region, which will inject more than $1.1 million into the local economy.

The organisers, Hand Picked Events, have run The Grass is Greener concerts in Cairns since 2016, with over 6,464 attendees at last year’s event and a $1.34 million economic benefit for the city.

Sounds Bout Right was held on the Gold Coast in January 2021 and despite COVID-19 restrictions and boarder closures, more than 3.400 people attended the event.
