NBL concern over leaked CCTV footage of tunnel incident at Brisbane Bullets vs Cairns Taipans clash at Nissan Arena
The National Basketball Leagues (NBL) as released a statement condemning the "unauthorised distribution of CCTV footage" capturing a physical altercation in the tunnel at Brisbane's Nissan Arena between Brisbane Bullets Aron Baynes and Cairns Taipans coach Adam Forde on 8th October.
The clash occurred during halftime of the Bullets match against the Taipans, with Baynes charged with unsportsmanlike conduct, unacceptable act in basketball and excessive disputing after being ejected from the match.
He was subsequently given a five-game ban after being found guilty of several charges.
The CCTV footage was leaked to media outlets at the weekend, prompting the NBL to release its statement yesterday.
It advised "the Hungry Jack's National Basketball League (NBL) wishes to express its deep disappointment and concern regarding the unauthorised distribution of CCTV footage from Nissan Arena, which shows a physical altercation between Aron Baynes and Adam Forde that occurred during halftime of the Brisbane vs Cairns game on Saturday, October 7."
The NBL confirmed that the venue manager, Netball Queensland, is investigating the footage being distributed from the arena, noting "the breach of security is disheartening, and it is of utmost importance Netball Queensland, the operators of the stadium, address the matter promptly.
"The NBL understands Netball Queensland has already commenced a full investigation into this unauthorised distribution."
The NBL highlighted the importance of security and acknowledged that they would work to protect all involved during the investigation, adding "the unauthorised release of confidential footage compromises the privacy of those involved and raises significant issues for the League and its players, coaches and staff."
