Netball Queensland installs electric vehicle charging stations at Brisbane’s Nissan Arena

Netball Queensland, in collaboration with its energy partner Origin, has installed four electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the car park adjacent to Brisbane’s Nissan Arena.

The initiative aims to support the growing number of EV owners and promote cleaner transport options within the community.

The newly installed 22KW charging stations feature four dedicated bays, including one DDA compliant charging bay, to cater to all EV owners.

Stadiums Queensland and Translink played a vital role in supporting and bringing the initiative to fruition.

The car park, frequented by both Nissan Arena patrons and Translink Park’n’Ride users, serves as a convenient location for EV owners on their daily commute or while attending events at Nissan Arena.

The growth in EV adoption has risen significantly in 2023, with electric vehicles accounting for 7% of new car sales, compared to just 3.1% in 2022.

In addition, the Queensland Government is targeting zero emissions passenger vehicles to account for 50% of new sales by 2030.

It is expected that future demand will require charging locations every 70 kilometres along arterial roads, leading to a total of 1600 public dual-outlet DC chargers at 84 additional sites across the state.

The charging stations at Nissan Arena intend to contribute to the required expansion of charging infrastructure in the Brisbane CBD.

Netball Queensland is dedicated to collaborating with key partners to invest in initiatives that reduce Nissan Arena and the broader Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC) precincts carbon footprint. These EV charging stations are one step towards creating a greener and more eco-friendly environment for our community.

Expressing her enthusiasm about the partnership, Netball Queensland Chief Executive, Kate Davies stated “we are thrilled to introduce these EV charging stations in collaboration with Origin to further enhance the great venue experience Nissan Arena provides.

“By embracing initiatives like this, we are not only supporting the transition to cleaner energy but also responding to the needs of our patrons and the broader community.

“We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this installation and working towards a greener future."

Stadiums Queensland Chief Executive, Todd Harris said the organisation was pleased to support the new addition to the QSAC precinct, adding “like most Queenslanders, Stadiums Queensland is invested in creating a more sustainable future, so we’re prioritising environmentally friendly practices and sustainability-focused upgrades across our venues, and we’re pleased to work with Netball Queensland on this opportunity.

“Sustainability is an important part of our strategic plan, and we will continue to work with our partners to identify opportunities to conduct our business in a more sustainable fashion.”

EV owners can easily locate the charging stations using the Origin 360EV Charge app. The user-friendly interface of these applications enables EV owners to conveniently find nearby charging facilities, check availability, and manage their charging sessions with ease.
