Multi-purpose synthetic field opens at Greater Shepparton Sports Precinct
The ongoing development of the Greater Shepparton Regional Sports Precinct is moving forward with the opening of its new multi-purpose synthetic field.
Jointly funded by the Federal Government and Greater Shepparton Council, the new $1.06 million all-purpose synthetic field is an integral part of the part of new Precinct.
Designed to meet strict International Hockey Federation (FIH) guidelines, the installation project saw the Joslyn Group provided the groundwork on the site while Tuff Turf supplied and installed the synthetic turf system.
Tuff Turf laid their HF13 ‘HYBRID’ synthetic grass system – a sand-dressed surface that offers superior comfort to players and fantastic ball speed, designed to provide years of use and comfort for the players.
Speaking at this week’s opening of the pitch, Federal Minister for Regional Development, Fiona Nash explained “redevelopment of the sports precinct will support future growth in junior sports participation which is vital to building successful communities.”
Greater Shepparton Council Mayor Dinny Adem said the new field would be of great benefit to the hockey association, sporting community and Greater Shepparton as a whole, providing a training venue for local clubs, adding “the new field has also provided the opportunity for the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association to expand their junior competition and provide more opportunity for senior participation, a great result encouraging individuals to stay and play in Shepparton.”
The Greater Shepparton Regional Sports Precinct is a $21 million project backed by contributions from the Federal Government ( $7.19 million), the Victorian Government ($750,000), the Council ($12.8 million) and local sports groups contributing $250,000.
The development will include a state-of-the-art sports precinct with the construction and upgrade of player and spectator facilities.
The overall project is due to complete in March next year.
