Multi-million dollar sale price expected for Heron Island Resort

Another Great Barrier Reef resort island is for sale with the Heron Island Resort, which offers 109 guest rooms and suites, on the market.

Following the sale of Daydream Island earlier this, real estate agents are expecting to attract a premium price for the pristine island, which last sold for $42 million in 2004.

Operated by Delaware North, last month the island was shortlisted in Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards for the Top 25 Resorts in Australia and the South Pacific.

Heron Island is famous for its spectacular offerings of wildlife. From October to March each year, Heron Island becomes the breeding home to hundreds of Green and Loggerhead turtles, offering guests a unique first hand view into one of nature’s greatest journeys.

Located within the World Heritage Listed Marine National Park off the coast of Gladstone it is a renowned diving location with 24 hectares of unspoilt coral reef.

The resort offers 109 guest rooms and suites, most of which enjoy views across the Coral Sea, and the chance to explore the natural beauty of the Great Barrier Reef.

It has a pool, day spa and a private jetty along with a restaurant, bar, lounge, marine centre, function room and a retail boutique.

The new owner will be able to make use of a 176-capacity boat as well as a number of dive boats and a semi-submersible vessel, according to commercial real estate agent JLL Hotels & Hospitality Group.

Delaware North is also understood to be trying to sell Lizard Island off Cairns, which it also owns.

Agent Andrew Langsford from agent JLL Hotels and Hospitality said the company would not comment on the price they were chasing, but said they have received some “very strong interest”.
