Mount Annan Leisure Centre shines in safety audit

The Mount Annan Leisure Centre in Western Sydney has earned top marks in Royal Life Saving Society Australia’s industry-wide safety assessment.

Patrons at the Y NSW managed facility can be secure in the knowledge that safety is the number one priority, with the facilities returning excellent results in Royal Life Saving Society Australia’s (RLSSA) Aquatic Facility Safety Assessment.

The audit covers a range of areas, including supervision, facility design, technical operations, health and safety system, and implementation of RLSSA’s Keep Watch at Public Pools policy.

The centre achieved a Safety Assessment Score of 96% and a 5-Star Safety Score of 98 percent; important recognition of the safety standards upheld at The Y.

Welcoming the recognition, Centre Operations Team Leader, Matt Thacker stated “our post COVID commitment as an Operations team was to develop and implement improvements to our health and safety systems to not only optimise our workplace procedures, but also our customer experiences.

"With this great result, we continue to look for opportunities to further improve for the safety of all who visit Mount Annan Leisure Centre."

The results are testament to the hard work and commitment of Y NSW staff, who ensure safety - one of the organisation’s five core values - is a top priority each and every day.

The centre’s Aquatics Operations team is led by Operations Coordinator Daniel McLellan and Operations Team Leaders Thacker and John Maxwell, who manage the provision of aquatics services, working alongside a team of duty managers and lifeguards.

The Y thanked members for their ongoing support through challenges including recent floods, as well as COVID-19, which has at times affected staff availability.

The RLSSA Aquatic Facility Safety Assessment is conducted to evaluate the level of safety and compliance within aquatic facilities across the country and ensure they are managed in line with current expectations and standards. This assessment is conducted annually by RLSSA licensed pool safety auditors.

Mount Annan Leisure Centre is managed by the Y NSW in partnership with Camden Council.
