Mount Annan Leisure Centre gets official opening
The newly upgraded and expanded Mount Annan Leisure Centre (MALC) has been officially opened by Camden Mayor Lara Symkowiak.
The $13.5 million construction project has transformed the aquatic, fitness and recreation centre into a state-of-the-art facility with improved capacity for indoor sports, fitness and wellness activities.
The first major upgrade to the Centre since it opened 16 years ago, the $14 million upgrade includes a new gym, a multipurpose indoor sports hall and new creche.
Camden Mayor Lara Symkowiak said the reinvigoration benefitted the entire area, commenting”the redevelopment of this centre provides the community with a high quality sports facility that will meet the growing demand for indoor sports across the Camden area.
“This facility is a real community asset and its contemporary design makes it an inviting place to exercise, socialise and participate in sport and fitness activities.
“Delivering this project is an investment into the health and wellbeing of the community and will increase the sustainability of this facility.”
The upgraded facility is allowing centre manager the YMCA to run new sports competitions and fitness activities.
YMCA NSW acting Chief Executive Karen Twitchet added “as operators of the centre, YMCA NSW would like to recognise this significant investment by Camden Council and Mayor Symkowiak and applaud their vision for supporting the health and wellbeing of the community now, and into the future.
“We are delighted with the new state-of-the-art facilities and look forward to continuing to offer our programs and services in this wonderful new space.
The upgrades and improvements have included:
• Expansion of the health and fitness facilities
• New toilets and change rooms
• New two court indoor multipurpose sports hall
• Expansion of crèche facilities
• Upgrade of kiosk
• 130 additional car parking spaces
• Refurbishment of the pool hall and amenities
