Mill Park Leisure opens new state-of-the-art gym

The City of Whittlesea’s Mill Park Leisure Centre has opened a newly refurbished gym equipped with premium equipment, chosen to enable the YMCA operated club to deliver a first-class experience for members, and compete effectively with other local gyms.

The club now offers a new layout, brand new equipment and networked fitness for local members to enjoy.

Centre Manager Paul Barbagallo explains that the newly refurbished gym has been designed and equipped with members in mind, stating “Mill Park Leisure is a club that prides itself on offering something for everyone in the community, with a very diverse range of cultures and ages amongst our members.

“We have carefully considered the needs of all of our gym users in planning our refurbishment, and so far the feedback has been fantastic."

The club has installed state-of-the-art Precor equipment, including Preva networked fitness, following a competitive tender process managed by the City of Whittlesea.

Barbagallo adds “in addition to exceeding the expectations of our current members, the outcome we wanted from a new equipment supplier was to grow our membership database through new members as well as retention, and to gain the ‘wow factor’ we need in order to remain competitive.”

With 21 competitor facilities in the Whittlesea area, competition is a key challenge for Mill Park Leisure, so installing premium, user-friendly equipment with a high level of technology was a decisive strategy to allow the club to become more competitive.

Member retention was up 4.5% in January this year compared to January 2013, with Barbagallo believes this can be attributed to the hype and expectation around the refurbishment that was underway at that time.

He adds “we definitely have that ‘wow factor’ now - all feedback so far is very positive, the new layout of the gym is great. Members are telling us they like the new equipment, its functionality, ease of use and how it looks. And they love the technology!

“With Preva we feel as though we have future-proofed ourselves to a certain extent, because of the way its features and functionality are continually evolving and being updated.”

Precor Australia Business Director Andy Pickett has been delighted with the recent launch, concluding “we were thrilled to be chosen to work with Mill Park Leisure to create their new gym, they have done a wonderful job and the Mill Park community can now enjoy a fantastic, world-class facility.”
