Mildura’s Quandong Park chosen as half basketball court location
Mildura Rural City Council’s Red Cliffs community has chosen Quandong Park as the preferred location for a new half basketball court.
The site, which was identified following consultation with the local community, met several identified community needs, including being large enough to accommodate a court suitable to host 3x3 competitions, while also being visible and close to toilets.
Respondents also noted that Quandong Park offered natural shade and the opportunity to include picnic tables, water stations and lighting if required in the future.
Mildura Rural City Councillor for Sports and Recreation Ian Arney thanked the Red Cliffs community for their input in choosing the site noting “our consultation kicked off in September 2023, and included meeting with residents, engaging local schools and meeting with the Red Cliffs Focus Group.
“All up we received 119 survey submissions, with Quandong Park proving a popular choice with residents, while meeting a lot of the needs required.
“Our teams are working toward starting construction of the new half basketball court over the next few months.”
Cr Arney said that once complete, the new half basketball court would provide a safe place for residents and visitors to participate in social and planned activities.
“The court will be a great asset to the Red Cliffs community, and I’m looking forward to seeing the project come to fruition,” Cr Arney added.
Mildura Rural City Council has also partnered with Hands Up Mallee and VicHealth to support the co-design by youth of the half basketball court in Red Cliffs.
As the project progresses, Council will continue to engage with the young people of Red Cliffs and share this information with the community.
