Acromat instal retractable grandstand at Mildura Sporting Precinct

By Karen Sweaney

Sports engineers and facility planners, Acromat, are installing a permanent, 500-seat retractable grandstand at the Mildura Sporting Precinct, further improving the stadium’s ability to accommodate a range of events.

Works are underway and expected to take three weeks to complete.

The grandstand will deliver improved, flexible indoor spectator seating, complementing the existing mezzanine level seating adjacent to the stadium’s show court.

Works are scheduled to be completed ahead of the blockbuster Women’s National Basketball League match-up at MSP on Friday 10th November between the Bendigo Spirit and Sydney Flames.

Mildura Rural City Councillor for Recreation and Events Mark Eckel said the installation of the grandstand represented another major milestone at the popular venue.

Councillor Eckel noted “with this addition we now have the capacity to cater for even larger crowds inside the stadium for events like the upcoming WNBL fixture..

“Improved seating both inside and outside the stadium were top priorities as part of MSP’s second stage of construction, with the retractable grandstand the feather in the cap of what is already a wonderful venue to attend high-calibre events.”

Councillor Eckel said the addition of the grandstand would provide more opportunities for MSP to attract indoor events of all types and sizes, while also providing more flexibility for local user groups.

“We’re looking to build on WNBL attendances this year following the first in-season game played at the venue in December 2022, while working with our indoor users to attract high-level state and national events,” he added.

“The addition of retractable grandstand seating will only enhance the precinct’s reputation as a go-to host for these types of events.”

Mildura Basketball Association president Luke Hermans said the grandstand would provide an exciting addition to the precinct and enthused “the Mildura Basketball Association is excited to see construction of the grandstand for Court Hall 1 of the Mildura Sporting Precinct.

“This is a large step in ensuring spectator comfort and will create a great atmosphere for games.”

MSP staff have worked closely with user groups to manage programming over the installation period. It is anticipated that there will be no significant impact on casual use or planned bookings.

Tickets for the 10th November WNBL fixture are still available from the MSP and What’s On Mildura websites.
