Michael Beros steps down as Chair of SportWest
After 12 years on the Board and 10 years as Chair of SportWest, Michael Beros is to retire from his position at the SportWest AGM later this year.
First elected to the Board in 2011, and subsequently elected as Chair in 2013, Beros (pictured) has been re-elected by SportWest members throughout his tenure.
His 12 years on the Board of SportWest has been described by the peak body as demonstrating “unwavering dedication and contribution to the Western Australia sporting landscape”.
The statement added “Michael’s passion for sport and its positive impact on communities and his strategic leadership has guided the Board of Directors during pivotal times for the sporting industry in Western Australia including navigating the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Commenting on his decision to retire from his SportWest role, Beros advised “words can’t describe the satisfaction and pride of knowing how far we’ve come over the past 12 years to evolve SportWest into the organisation it is today.
“In my time I’ve met some of the greatest WA sports industry stalwarts, thoroughly enjoyed the experience of engaging with five WA Sport’s Ministers and worked closely with the two most dedicated and passionate CEOs in Rob Thompson and Matt Fulton. However, it’s the SportWest Members across 130 odd different organisations that I am truly indebted as together with their hardworking employees and volunteers, they provide the heartbeat that keeps pumping the blood throughout this great industry.
“Whether it be grassroots to elite, sport will always be the gel that binds our communities as it continues to transcend across many levels. My SportWest chapter may have closed, and my guess is as good as yours on how my next chapter in sport will play out”.
Western Australian Minister for Sport and Recreation, David Templeman acknowledged Beros’ commitment and achievements, noting “what a great bloke Michael is. I have really enjoyed working with him while I’ve been Minister.
“Michael has been committed to the aspirations and values of SportWest and to the sector and I wish him all the best for the future. I thank him for his passion and understanding of how important sport is to our Western Australian community.”
SportWest has advised that Suzanne Ardagh from recruitment consultancy Lester Blades has been engaged to conduct a search for the next Chair of SportWest.
