Meetings and event industry professionals converge on Sydney

Starting today (Sunday 30th April) Meetings & Events Australia's (MEA) national conference is set to deliver the most extensive program in its 42 year history, with an international speaker line-up from all parts of the events industry.

The three-day conference, which runs until Tuesday 2nd May, will be opened by Opposition Tourism spokesperson Anthony Albanese at 5pm at the new ICC Sydney.

Topics include new technology, industry trends and the future of events, with more than 500 event professionals from around Australia converging on Sydney to learn and network.

An exhibition held in association with the MEA Conference will showcase the latest products and services designed to enhance events and add to the delegate experience. The conference also includes the MEA National Awards, with more than 650 guests registered to attend - making it the largest event industry Awards in Australia.

MEA Chairperson Anne Jamieson commented  "this year's conference will challenge delegates to think differently, to open their minds to new ideas and push the boundaries when it comes to event delivery.

"With our solid strategic foundation in place, we are now ready - more than ever before - to develop and promote growth and excellence in the meetings and events industry and further solidify MEA's position as the peak national events industry body.”

MEA will also launch the first event of part of its new Leadership Series on day three of the Conference.

This event will discuss the importance of international attendance and visitation to Australia with host, Ray Martin speaking with John O'Sullivan, Managing Director Tourism Australia and Margy Osmond, Chief Executive of Transport and Tourism Forum about reinforcing Australia's place as an aspirational events destination.

Under the guidance of new Chief Executive, Robyn Johnson and Chair Anne Jamieson, MEA has undertaken a review of all parts of the organisation and has developed a three year strategic plan, new sponsorship and partnership opportunities, a revised membership model, plus training, development and business opportunities.

These opportunities will be launched to MEA members by 1st July 2017 setting out a solid platform for the re-invigoration of the organisation, which has already resulted in major partnerships and more than 10% growth in membership plus broader industry engagement; within the last three months alone.
